Lasik Eye Surgery

LASIK Surgery in Katy & Houston, TX

Are you tired of wearing glasses or fumbling with contact lenses? If so, then one great alternative for vision improvement is LASIK surgery and you'll find some of the best eye surgeons performing LASIK in Katy & Houston, Eye Site.

.

The Basics of LASIK Surgery

The term LASIK stands for Laser in Situ Keratomileusis, which describes the process of the surgery. In this surgery, your surgeon will use a highly-specialized laser to cut and work underneath a corneal flap (in situ) in order to reshape your cornea (keratomileusis) to improve natural vision. LASIK surgery can be used to correct a variety of vision issues, but is most commonly used to treat hyperopia (farsightedness), myopia (nearsightedness), and astigmatism.

What to Expect When You Schedule LASIK Surgery

LASIK surgery is a fast and nearly painless procedure that we perform here at Eye Site in Katy & Houston. The process begins with a conversation with your eye doctor and then the application of numbing eye drops. These eye drops will prevent any discomfort during the procedure. If you are especially anxious, you can also talk to your doctor about medication that can take a bit of the edge off and help you relax.

Once you're ready, you'll be moved to the eye surgery room where you'll sit back in a char. Your eye surgeon will then utilize a specialized instrument called a lid speculum to keep your eyelids open and prevent blinking. An ink marker will be used to mark where the flap needs to be cut and a suction ring applied to further keep your eye stable and prevent loss of contact. The corneal flap will then be created and you'll be asked to look at a bright target light as your surgeon uses the laser light to painlessly reshape the cornea.

While LASIK won't cause you any sharp pain, many patients will feel a slight pressure on their eyes. You are also likely to hear the laser machinery making a steady click-click-click noise. The entire process takes about 15 minutes for each eye and you'll be able to leave shortly following the surgery. Because you will need to protect your eyes from harsh light in the hours following the procedure and because your eyes will be dilated, we recommend arranging for someone to drive you home.
