Astigmatism

Blurry vision can be caused by several different eye conditions. One of these eye conditions is something called astigmatism, an eye condition involving the shape of your cornea. We at Eye Site can give you an eye exam at either our Katy, TX, or Memorial, TX, offices to determine if astigmatism is the reason for the issues you've been experiencing. If it is, we can provide contact lenses, eyeglasses, and our other optometry services to help you bring clarity back to your vision.

.

Astigmatism Occurs Due to the Shape of Your Cornea

A normal eyeball and cornea should be shaped like a ball. With astigmatism, the cornea can be elongated or flattened at various points, resulting in more of a football-type shape. An optometrist looking at your eyeball, if you have astigmatism, would find that the light is not focusing properly on your retina, the retina being the light sensitive part of your eye.

This means that your vision can be blurry both up close and far away. You can also have other visual distortions and potential eye fatigue. Luckily, glasses and contact lenses can be made to correct for astigmatism so that you see more clearly. See an eye doctor on our optometry team for a vision exam or an eye exam and we can get you a prescription to correct your astigmatism.

It can also be important to get an eye exam to check for eye diseases. Glaucoma, and other eye diseases, do not have symptoms visible to the patient in their early stages. This means that by the time that the patient notices that he has a problem with his eyes, irreversible vision loss might have already occurred. An eye exam from an eye doctor can detect these eye diseases early so that you can get early treatment to potentially prevent this vision loss before it happens.
