Is LASIK Surgery Right For You?

LASIK is a laser surgical procedure that gently reshapes the cornea to treat nearsightedness, farsightedness, and astigmatism. Below are a few guidelines to meet with LASIK surgery.
Your Prescription
One of the first things that our eye doctors will check is your prescription strength. If it is not within the acceptable parameters, you probably will not be able to get LASIK surgery. If you are nearsighted, your prescription can be no higher than -11.00 D. For farsightedness, your prescription cannot be greater than +5.00 D. If you have astigmatism, your prescription can be no more than 5.00 D.
Age
To be a good candidate for LASIK, your eyes will need to have reached maturity, which occurs around the age of 18.
Eye Health
Your eyes must be healthy to get this procedure done. If you have an eye disease, such as glaucoma, diabetic retinopathy, or macular degeneration, you would not be a good candidate for LASIK, as it will only exacerbate the symptoms.
Overall Health
Certain health conditions would make LASIK unsuccessful. Diabetes, lupus, rheumatoid arthritis, and autoimmune disease are a few conditions that can make the healing process difficult.
Stable Vision
LASIK is not ideal for people who have a fluctuating vision. The prescription-strength will need to be stable for at least 12 months before LASIK can be performed.
